In 2010 Tom de Freston was awarded a Leverhulme Funded Residency at Cambridge University. The focus of the post was to collaborate with academics on the production of a body of paintings in response to Milton’s Paradise Lost. Many of the paintings focsued on The Fall of the Rebel Angels and explored the question of whether Tragedy could exist in contemporary painting. The paintings displayed here represent a preoccupation with these same themes from 2009-2014.
