Tom de Freston was appointed as Medicine Unboxed Artist in Residence in 2014 and will hold the post until 2016. At Medicine Unboxed 2014 (Frontiers) de Freston had a solo show of new works and also made a series of site specific paintings in response to the them of Frontiers.
Outside of the paintings Tom was involved in the development of the inaugural Medicine Unboxed Creative Prize, he was also one of the judges. The Medicine Unboxed Creative Prize 2014 is a competition for a creative work of any kind that illuminates the relationship between the arts and medicine. From 80 entries seven artists were shortlisted- Ravi Thornton, Pascale Petit, Agnes Davis, Eduardo Miranda, Helen Ivory, Tiffany Atkinson and Victoria Hume. Tiffany Atkinson was selected as the winner of the £10,000 prize. Tom interviewed all of the candidates as part of a documentary about the prize.
He is currently working on a series of new works for Medicine Unboxed 2015 on the theme of Mortality.
