The Fast Judgement
The title of this work is a pun on Michelangelo's 'The Last Judgement. Visually it looks to borrow from the works spiralling mass of figural forms in the sky.Rather than being structured and lifted by the central force of Christ they fall in one chaotic mass, recalling medieval images of the dammed and depictions of Milton's 'Paradise Lost' and Dante's 'Divine Comedy'
The epic and tragic nature of this scene is offset by the lurid foreground stage, the boxer wearing welcomer and a sock wearing worshipper.
Acrylic on paper, 150x200cm, 2009
